unit 6 exercises

Unit 6:

Page 131

3.- Define these concepts : powre source, conductor, load device.Give an example of it.

Power source: Component tat supplies electrical energy to the resistant.

Conductor: Component that transport the electrical energy from the power sources to the load device

Load device: Component that recives the electrical energy from the power source and convert it to other types of useful energy.

4.-List all the controll and protection devices that you can think of and explain what they do.

One-way switch:open or close the circuit when they are actuated

Push switch:they open or close the circuit, but only while we keep them pressed

Two-way switch:they open and close one or more circuits. They can also open some circuits and close other ones.

Limit switch:it functions as a switch that toggles between two positions when it is operated by a lever

Fuse: they protect the components of electric circuits from  power surges

5.-Which materials are used to make an electric wire (inside and out)?
Out is made o plastic an inside is made of copper.

6.-We know that the circuit the figure below is the equivalent circuit of two identical resistors connected in series, that the cell is 9V and that the current flowing throungh the circuit is 0.3mA.

a) Calculate the value of the equivalent resistor.
R= 9V/0.0003A=30Ω
b)Calculate the value of the resistors in the intinial circuit.
30Ω

7.-Study the following two circuits. If lamp 1 blows in each circuit, how would this affect their operation?

If in the firs circuit the first lamp blows the circuit will be open. If in the second circuit the first lamp blows the circuit will be closed because it´s parallel.

electric circuits

Electric circuits

Las class we did a circuit with Felipe Moreno, and Pepita Eló
I did it with a led , cabels and a battery of 4.5 v and an other with three leds in ''paralel" lines

Today we did it with the leds in lines and we use three leds a battery of 9v two cabels three resistors.

Structures

Structures

A structure is a collection of elements arranged in an optimun way to support a body or an object.

Types of structures:

Mass structures.
These are solid, heavy and very sturdy structures

Frame structures.
These structures are formed by columns and beams that act as supporting elements.

Truss structures.
These are composed of bars that form triangles. they are lightweyand sturdy.

Suspended stuctures.
These are helded in place by cabels and suspenders attached to sturdy supports.

  • PAGE94:7,9
  • PAGE95:11,12
1.- Copy and complete the following table in your nootebook.

              Types of structures
                         Examples
Mass
Walls,dams…
Frame
Schools,houses …
Truss
Cranes,electricity pylons…
Suspended
Tents,maerquees…

2.-Have you ever seen a structure that uses cables?Write down the names of the ones that you can remember or the ones that you can see and draw them in your notebook.    Electricity pylons

3.- when a person sits on a chair, the stress that the chair has to withstand is due to the weighth of the person whereas the strength is the chair´s ability to withstand the load with out breaking.Indicate wich is the sterngth and which is the stress in the examples:

a) A wardrobe hanging from a rope :stress
b) A twisting telephone cord: sterngth

6.- Describe the estructure of a turtle´s shell .Why do you think it has this shape?what material do you think its made from?
is it strongenough for the stesses it has to withstand?
The shell of a turtleis form by an hexagon structures.
I think it has that shape to resist big forces.

7.- Which types of stress do the folowing elements and activities have to support :a rope with a weight hanging of it( tension )
man pushing a cabinet(compression)thightening a screw(tension) cuting our fingernails(shear).

9.- Write a short description of three objets using one of the follwing adjetives for each objects: rigid, elastic and plastic.

Wood table :rigid  Elastic band :elastic   Plastic bottle:plastic

11.- Copy and complete the following table in your notebook with objects that have the properties shown in the right-hand column.

objects
properties
brick
Rigid
Clay
Deformable
Rubber
Elastic
Chewing gum
Plastic

12.-Think about the following objects and state whether they are rigid ,plastic or elastic:
  • empty drink can(plastic)
  •  ballon(elastic)
  • window frame(rigid)
  • clay(plastic)
  • catapult(elastic/rigid)
  • door(rigid)

auxiliary dimension line : any of the lines used to accurately delimit dimensions lines .
cavalier perspective :perspective that allows us to view objets in 3d with one 90º angle and two 135º angles.
dimension: to indicate on the drawing of a figure the actual measurements that are neededto define it.
dimension line: any of the lines used to indicate measirements;these lines are draw parallelto the line that they measure.
exturder: the part in a 3D printer that picks up the plastic filament and deposits the exact amount on the printer bed.
front elevation: main view of an object;it is always the most representative part of the figure.
isometric perspective:perspective that allows us to view in 3D with three 120º angles.
left or right elevation: view from the left -or rigth -hand side of the figure .
plan: view of the figure from overhead.
slicing: procedure in which slicing software determines how many layers of plastic are required for 3D printer.
standardisation:set of standars that regulates every  element of technical drawings.
